Travel fantasy: Cinque Terre

Jacinta just went to Cinque Terre, and her gorgeous photos make me want to hop on a plane. Wouldn't you love to be eating fried fish and jumping off rocks into the sea right about now? I can almost feel that refreshing, goose-pimply water.

I ate gelato on a slanted street while an old man watched me from a window above! And I hiked about 5 hours between 2 of the towns. I LOVED it.

  37. I have to say that it's heartwarming to read these comments from Italy. :) I live not far from Cinque Terre, which make them "normal", just everyday life in my experience, and to see them through your eyes make them special again, it's a change in perspective. Thanks!

  38. I LOVED Cinque Terre! I tried to conquer the entire trail during a heat wave! We made it through four of the five towns before we finally deviated from the path and just jumped in the water to swim! haha! We took the train to the last town! I wish my D90 was waterproof!

Riomaggiore! I swear if the camera had been angled just a titch to the left in the first shot, you would see the window of the apartment my husband and I stayed in for a week 4 years ago. My husband proposed to me there (on the beach not in the apartment).
We love Italy so much. We can't wait until we can take our son, born in April, to swim in the Mediterranean.

The happy & bubbly Italians during the World Cup matches, the seafood, the shopping... It was fabulous! You can read about it & see my photos on my blog! * ♥

I was just in Italy for four months and I took a trip up to Cinque Terre. We were there for 27 hours (took two night trains to and from Rome and slept in the stations!). It was incredible. The best pesto I will ever have was at Da Billy in Manarola. The hikes were beautiful and so was napping on the beach afterward! . . . Remind me why I left again? Great post!
Ps. On the very end of Riomaggiore there is a beach and on a big, flat, rock someone sketched a game board. When you go, look for it and make up your own game on a rocky beach in Italy. Not too shabby!

I can't wait to go back someday with my husband and hike and spend more time there!

Megan and I actually went there together in 2006. We were venturing around Europe and some local Italians told us it was THE place to go in the area. It has been our favorite place on earth ever since - a MUST see, it's even cuter in person!! When I saw your post today, I couldn't believe it because no one has ever heard of the place state side! Once Toby gets bigger, you must go!!

I think just what’s happened so far is already making the opportunities more interesting, even though I’m at the twilight of my career of like 48 years.
