Tina Fey's memoir, Bossypants, comes out today! She talks hilariously about her life, from her awkward childhood in Pennsylvania and one-sided college romance to her days at Saturday Night Live and near-fatal honeymoon. The reviews are raving, and I can't wait to read it, especially the chapter on juggling work and motherhood, a topic near and dear to my heart. Are you going to read it? (Also, thoughts on the cover?)ADVANCE PRAISE FOR BOSSYPANTS:
"I hope that's not really the cover. That's really going to hurt sales." (Don Fey, Father of Tina Fey)
"Totally worth it." (Trees)
My favorite photo of Tina, from an American Express ad a while back:

Oh, Tina. I love her! Creepiest picture ever on the cover, though!
ReplyDeleteSUCH a creepy cover, i agree!
ReplyDeleteWow! I didn't even know she had a book coming out. This is why I love you Joanna. ;) Ready to pick up her book. Tina Fey is by far my favorite comedian!
ReplyDeleteDid you read her New Yorker article on motherhood and career? (from the Anniversary issue) Brilliance!
ReplyDeleteI once spilled wine on her AND her hubby at a party. It was pretty mortifying. ALSO, WE SHARE THE SAME BIRTHDAY! I'm sure she remembers me and thinks of me fondly (uh, not).
ReplyDeleteYES! i LOVED the new yorker articles -- which were actually excerpts from the book! i wish i could link to them, but you need a subscription to read them online.
ReplyDeleteno way, megan!! that's a serious claim to fame :)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to this - and the next series of 30 Rock!
ReplyDeleteLooks so funny! I was reading her feature in Glamour yesterday... she is a fabulous lady!
ReplyDeletePIECE OF CAKE. PEACE OF MIND.
I hate the cover though. Ugh. I don't know if non-subscribers can read but maybe...there were two excerpts in recent New Yorkers.
ReplyDeleteTina is one of my heroes...nothing makes me happier than if someone says, "you remind me of Tina Fey & it's not just 'cause you have on your glasses..." They kind of turn their head & squint like I'm going to hit them. But nooooo. So happy.
Oh sorry. I didn't see the comments re: NYer before I left the comment.
ReplyDeleteI've been curious about the book, I might check it out since it has been getting rave reviews.
ReplyDeletei love her quote in the new instyle magazine:
ReplyDeleteKids are definitely the boss of you. Anyone who will barge into the room while you are on the commode is the boss of you. And when you explain to them that you're on the commode and that they should leave but they don't? That's a high-level boss.
hilarious!
I love her and definitely will read the book.
ReplyDeleteI had to take a second look at the cover...so quirky, so her...but yes, creepy!!!
Umm... yeah, definitely a creepy cover! But it sounds like it would be a good read, I'll have to add it to the ever-growing list. :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to reading the book, but the cover totally grosses me out! lol
ReplyDeletehaha, that looks funny! :)a
ReplyDeleteShe's my hero :)
ReplyDeletenear death honeymoon?! Crazy! Like that cover... lol.
ReplyDeletedang, i want a wine-spilling tina fey story...
ReplyDeleteof course the reviews are raving, she is a genius! i'm so happy to hear she has a book - i had no idea (since moving to europe my american pop culture isolation has taken a turn for the worse). if i could get my hands on a copy here, i'm sure i wouldn't be able to put it down. i love everything she takes part in from SNL (even the later years...cough, sarah palin, cough) to Date Night (SO funny) to Baby Mama...can you tell i love tina fey?
the cover reminds me of that Seinfeld where he dates the girl with man hands. so gross! but i love tina fey so much :)
ReplyDeleteYay Philly girls! She's awesome!

i think the cover (however creepy) is perfect for her! she is never worried about how she is viewed, and though she is totally sexy she's not trying "too hard." can't wait to read!
ReplyDeleteI can NOT wait to read it!! I feel like Liz Lemon on a more than daily basis. Hoping they have it at the NYPL soon...

ReplyDeleteI'm buying it today!! I can't WAIT to read it!
ReplyDeleteExcited to read this since it's getting so many good reviews. I've always loved that ad from her, too. Creepy cover photo - wonder what it implies as far as the memoir is concerned, or if it's just meant to be funny.
ReplyDeleteI preordered it and it magically appeared on my kindle this morning. I started it on my train ride and LOVE it. So lovely. Highly recommended!
ReplyDeleteShe is totally brilliant and I can't wait to get the book. The American Express ad is my favourite too:) Kisses, Joanna
ReplyDeleteThink those are Alec Baldwin's arms/hands?
ReplyDeletegood to know, kfine!!
ReplyDeleteHoly geez, she's awesome. I mean, how great is it that a female celebrity doesn't feel the need to huss herself up for publicity? Love it. Love her. And extra love the advance praise!
ReplyDeleteThis one's going to be a keeper.
Can we please get a Cup of Jo/Tina Fey interview? It would be made of awesome.
ReplyDeleteI adore Tina Fey.. when I was in fifth grade I wrote my "what I want to be when I grow up essay" on becoming a regular on SNL.

She is just too funny! I just watched Date Night again the other night and it makes me laugh...a lot! I think her book would be such a great read. The cover sure is eye-cathing...I think it kinda fits with a lot of her comedy!
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting us know about this. I guess in America everyone knows about this but in England she's not so huge. I'm totally going to buy it. I bet I laugh outloud whilst reading it.
ReplyDeleteI love the second photo, too!
ReplyDeleteShe wrote about juggling motherhood and work and the prospect of having another baby in the New Yorker a while ago - did you read it? I loved it...
And I hope to read the book, too!

Gotta love Tina, this will be a book I actually read that isn't for school.
ReplyDeleteHaha.. I find the cover to be hysterical! Can't wait to give it a read :)
ReplyDeleteI just bought it on my kindle! And I have to say, even though I am only in the introduction I am already laughing hysterically. I just LOVE her sense of humor.
ReplyDeleteI've been counting the days for this book. Love Tina Fey any way I can get her. But the cover is killing me.
ReplyDeleteNot a huge fan of the cover, but I am a big fan of Tina Fey. She's so talented. I liked the Vogue article that featured her about a year ago. She talked about coming up with the term "mom jeans"! Hilarious! I'd definitely be interested in reading her book.
ReplyDeletei had no idea she wrote a book! cannot wait to read it as well!

Steffys Pros and Cons
I chose the exact same two Advance Praise lines when I was forwarding info on this book to my friends! Haha!
ReplyDeleteI love that AmEx ad too. I was just thinking about it the other day as I tried too distract my toddler away from my laptop, unsuccessfully.
ReplyDeleteThe hairy arms are kinda gross, but typically funny Tina. I remember that AmEx ad too thinking it was genius. I am not much of a reader (except for fashion mags, do those count?) but this might be one I should start with.
ReplyDeleteTina Fey. Liz Lemon. Love it all. Has anyone read the blog post proclaiming that 30 Rock is a rip-off of The Muppet Show? http://bloglynch.blogspot.com/2009/06/30-rock-is-rip-off-of-muppet-show.html Interesting insight? Yes. Do I care? Not really.
ReplyDeleteMy question to the book cover selection committee - why so much hair?!
Thanks for the post, I went and picked up the book today! I adore Tiny Fey and can't wait to read it.
ReplyDeleteOh I love her! I didn't even know she was coming out with a book. I'll need to look into this asap.

ReplyDeleteI've really been struggling with the full-time-working-mom thing, so hopefully this will offer some lighthearted insight. So glad I saw this, thanks. :)
ReplyDeleteThat cover just kills me!
ReplyDeleteLOVE her! can't wait to read - it is at the top of my "book" list!
ReplyDelete(yes, I keep a list of books I want to read as a note on my phone - otherwise when I go in to HalfPrice books I wind up with a stack of books NOT on my list, then I have to go back and buy even more books!)
