Have a relaxing weekend.

My darlings, what are you up to this weekend? Alex and I just got back from Amsterdam, where we had an amazing time (I'm excited to share photos next week), although now that we're back, we've been smooching on Toby non-stop this morning. We missed him so much! Hope you have a wonderful weekend, and here are a few fun posts, if you find yourself in a blog-reading mood...xoxo

  9. My best friend is giving birth today (right now actually!!) I was just looking for recipes and deciding what I should bring over once they get home from the hospital. I love the taco box idea, and will be heading to a wine store down the street to get a crate once I leave work. Thanks for this ingenious idea!!

Since we just got back from 8 days in Amsterdam a few weeks ago, I am especially interested in seeing your photos! I'm always more interested in photos of a place AFTER I have been there. Then I can say, "hey, I saw that! I was there!"

I had a City Hall wedding, and am very happy about that. We got married at City Hall in Cambridge, Massachusetts... low key, just family. I wore a white dress (but not a wedding dress) from Saks Fifth Avenue. This was actually a compromise since I originally didn't even want anyone else there... honestly while most women seem to be obsessed with the wedding and not even look past it to the marriage itself, I viewed the wedding as an uncomfortable obstacle. I really just wanted to get it out of the way! It had the added benefit of saving a ton of money which we spent on a fabulous two-week honeymoon in Australia.

  12. Welcome back! The slides - yes, that's why play structures indicate what ages should be using the structure - also, letting your child swing between parents arms - can lead to damaged ligaments and breaks at shoulders.

  13. How do you find such great blogs?? I love the taco box idea and the 'new do' blog is so beautiful! Thanks for sharing!!!

  14. The safety warning is definitely appropriate. I went down a twisty slide with my son (at a playground near Riverhouse - I think you know the neighborhood :-))and his shoe got caught just as was described in the article. I was shaken up when we got to the bottom because I knew something happened and he started crying.... I watched carefully how he walked and thank goodness he was fine, but never again!

  15. Baby elephant frolicking in the waves! So, so sweet.

I've always wanted a pet elephant. The hubby doesn't think it too practical, living in an apartment and all.

    Great Friday links as usual!

Though I was a bit disappointed in the author of the article on marriage and sex for adopting a slightly hostile and disparaging tone towards single people - I'm thinking of the sense of competition implied in her use of the phrase "thankyouverymuch," and of the unkind sentiment in the final sentence of the article. We should all do what we can to bridge the gap in perspective between single people and partnered people, not widen it! Just some food for thought :)

  19. The slide warning is so important....it happened to us when Piper was 18 months, she didn't break her leg but she could not walk for about two weeks.....it was horrible.

    Boo hoo.

    Love the elephants....;)

  25. Hello, darling, yourself! Today is my and my hubby's 10 year wedding anniversary and we are leaving tonight for Paris to celebrate - without our little one! I am so excited out of my mind, and so sad all at once because I'll miss my little munchkin so much. Ahh! It's nice to hear you go on trips without Toby and gives me courage to do the same. I know it's important for our marriage. Anyways, I love my husband so much and am so excited for the most romantic trip ever!!! That's what we're up to! Can't wait to check in when we get back and hear all about your trip.

  26. Oh dear, I didn't realize it was that common for toddlers to break their legs on slides! My little sister broke hers at 16 months old, sitting on my lap (I was 9). I felt so awful! Poor kid had a cast from tush to toe, bent knee and all, but after a day or two acted like it was nothing, climbing all over everything again.

  27. I've loved those convex mirrors ever since I went on a tour of Monticello and heard that Mrs. Jefferson used hers to discreetly check on all of the guests at her parties... what a great way to scan the room without anyone noticing!

  29. Yikes, when I was a kid, I knew a toddler who broke their arm on the slide at The Children's Place. (Remember that store?! I had their leggings in every color). Has anyone gotten the new Domino yet? Worth it? I'm half tempted to run out to the bookstore tonight.

  35. KTPin, i reread the article and definitely see what you mean! good point. thank you for mentioning it. my mom actually did some grad school work at the University of Virginia with Bella DePaulo who writes a LOT about being single and the discrimination singles have to fight against in society. it's fascinating and eye-opening. xo

  36. stephanie, you are so right!!! i went right into his room (at 1am when we got home) and scooped him up into my arms and said, "Toby, it's mama, i love you so much," and he was still fast asleep the whole time, but my heart swelled just feeling his warm forehead and the weight of a little head on my shoulder. xoxo

    its true!
My 18 month old son was riding down the slide on my lap and his foot got caught under my leg. he couldnt walk when we got off and my heart sank! he had a fracturued tibia. he had the cast for a bout a month and it didnt worry him at all, he was walking around on it by the end. his mama however is still quite traumatised.
